GENERATION TOURNAMENT 2007

After all the sunny weather in April, we had a somewhat overcast afternoon for the traditional Generation Tournament, but even a little drizzle could not dampen the enthusiasm.

After 3 hours of tennis and plenty of careful handicapping Nicky and Ian Matthews won by a single point from Charlie Fachiri playing with his godfather John Paltridge, and father and son combo Edward and Paul Sherrard who finished second equal.

As ever, the juniors received extra points the younger they were, and points were deducted from any team player or anyone who had won the tournament before. In the event the “geriatric bonus” carried the day with Ian Matthews being one of only two players admitting to being over 50! (For the price of a pint the referee will disclose the name of the other, but she is an officer of the club).

Particular thanks to Sylvia who organised the tea, to the other helpers, to the eighteen couples who played, and to Tom, a new face behind the bar.
